HyperX Cloud Revolver S Review: The Best FPS Gaming Headset

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Gaming Headset Review

After collecting lots of feedback from previous Cloud series gaming headsets, Kingston released HyperX Cloud Revolver headset in 2017, which is more comfortable and better sound performance. However, the disadvantage is that this headset doesn’t have Dolby sound. One year later, Kingston released an upgraded version: HyperX Cloud Revolver S with Dolby Headphone technology.

Packaging

From the product picture on the package, the appearance of this new HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset has not changed significantly from the previous version, and even the design of the package box has been almost completely retained. The upper package box directly states that it supports multiple platforms including PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Mac, and mobile phones.

The appearance of the headset is not much different from the previous version, except that the red logo has become white. If the logo has RGB lights, it will greatly improve its appearance, it’s really a pity.

Head Beam

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Head Beam

The brand logo lied directly on the head beam, and the inner head contact part uses memory foam. And the head beam adopts a popular suspension adaptive design, the advantage is that the weight of the headset (about 376 grams) can be evenly distributed without putting too much pressure on the head.

Ear Cushions

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Cushions

HyperX Cloud Revolver S headset ear cups are oval in shape and larger in size (with an 11 cm outer diameter and 6.5 cm inner diameter in the longitudinal direction, 9 cm outer diameter and 4.7 cm inner diameter in the transverse direction). The ear cushions are made of soft memory foam and leather, which is very comfortable to wear. But you may feel sultry, especially in summer,.

Sound Unit

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Sound Unit

HyperX Cloud Revolver S uses a 50mm neodymium magnet unit, which is designed to broaden the audio range of PFS games in terms of depth and breadth, and optimize the resolution and sound field. The low-frequency effect is also relatively excellent.

Experience

Wear Experience

The ear cups filled with memory foam and large in size, which can completely cover ears. The head beam is adaptive to the size of the head through the elastic design on both sides. A thick sponge pad minimizes the head beam’s pressure to the head. HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset has a quite good wearing experience.

Audio Experience

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Audio Experience

HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset support Dolby 7.1. The headset itself is 2.0 stereo headphones. The Dolby 7.1 effect is achieved through the USB sound card. Like the ordinary gaming headsets, the HyperX Cloud Revolver S is biased towards the low and mid frequencies. The high-frequency performance may not that good. But if you listen to rhythmic pop music, HyperX Cloud Revolver S still helps you enjoy it. As for the Dolby sound effect, it will give you the feeling of a theater or a concert. You can try to open it, maybe the music you’ve heard a hundred times, and it will also make you refreshed.

Film Experience

I also tested several 5.1-channel movies to test the virtual 7.1 of HyperX Cloud Revolver S headset. (The fact you should know, the film itself is 5.1 channel, but the headset’s cable is 3.5mm, so at most, it is a 2.0-channel analog multi-channel, not Physical 7.1-channel.)

From the sense of hearing, when the virtual surround 7.1 mode is turned on, the spatial sense of the sound comes out, and you’ll feel like being on the scene. Because it is a gaming headset, it will amplify the bass of some small details, The overall sound of the scene sounds a bit confusing.

Gaming Experience

Overwatch

Overwatch Gaming Experience

FPS games are the best choice to test the sound localization of the headset. Overwatch support 7.1 channels, so don’t forget to set on the sound card. In the beginning, I did not turn on the Dolby, but the position of the teammates around me was already very clear. When I turned on the Dolby, I can only lament that the performance of the HyperX Cloud Revolver S is too excellent. The sound field will not only be several times larger, but you can also hear the faraway sounds. The sound of gunshots and footsteps in the distance will be very clear and accurate, which will increase your detection measuring the range of the enemy, it will be very helpful in FPS games. During the game, I also used the microphone to communicate with teammates. There was no noise in the communication.

No doubt, the best FPS gaming headset must be the Cloud Revolver S.

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 Gaming Experience

I chose the air combat level – the last level of supreme authority as a test, HyperX Cloud Revolver S did not let me down. After turning on the Dolby effect, it seems that I was on the air battlefield. Not only can hear the sound of the engines and cannons of the enemy aircraft around you. This proves that the sound localization of the HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset is not limited to a plane, but a three-dimensional space.
